I couldn’t wait to be in the band when I was a kid. My mom, a professional singer, took me to see a jazz band when I was 8, and there was a cool talented guy playing a horn, and I knew right then what I wanted to do. When I got to 4th grade, I chose the sax, and it became my good friend. It also gave me confidence, discipline, and helped develop my artistic and mathematical brain. I played that thing until I was 16. Then the guitar and rock and roll eventually took over, though Jazz will always have a special place in my heart and brain. I think more girls should play horns like the sax and the trumpet, because then you can march in the Mardi Gras band with the other cool kids. “She’s With The Band” is water color and marker on 6” x 5 1/2” paper. “Guitars, Goats and Goodness” One time I sang for some animals at a rescue farm. There was a peacock and chickens and roosters and llamas and goats and a donkey. They seemed to really enjoy my singing and guitar playing. All living things love music, because it sends good energy and love and healing. “ She Ate All The Thin Mint Cookies” I went to see my mom today, cuz im going back on the road soon, and I wanted to see her before I go. My mother and I were sitting around the dinner table, and I was telling her that I just bought Girl Scout cookies outside of Kroger. Then she started telling me this story about when she was a little Girl Scout, and she had all these cookies she was supposed to sell. Well, her mother went to work (at Goodyear on Piedmont rd), and when she came home, mom had eaten all the thin mint cookies she was supposed to sell. My grandmother got so mad at her and hollered at her and made her cry, and then she took the rest of the cookies to work to sell to her unsuspecting coworkers. I’d never heard about this before, and I love this story, so I had to draw it. Mom approves of my interpretation of it 🙂 Watercolor and marker on 6” x 5 1/2” paper.
